How would you like your drink?

Has a waiter ever popped such question? Well, at Long & Short your answer will be already on lips. Want to know why? Read along to know more about it:

When we say Long & Short, what actually struck you? Can you guess what this (Long & Short) stands for? Well let’s spill the beans, the iconic Intercontinental Marine Drive has an insane gastrobar called Long & Short which offers a perfect blend of Cocktails/Mocktails, but it can be either in a Long glass or a short glass depicting Long & Short respectively. Now, the best part about these drinks is that its an eyebrow raiser not just because of its height, but because of the hue of colors as well. Trust us, you gotta see this yourself then you would understand what we are trying to say.

LnS

This little visit to Long & Short (L&S) happened last weekend when Mumbai was just out of its flood hiccup. The weather was indeed perfect to spend an amazing afternoon alongside the view of the queen’s necklace hitting right on our faces. This was a small yet amazing get together tasting organized by the L&S team.

Our previous visit at Intercontinental Marine Drive was to the Dome for watching a local band named Spud in the Box and then it was Long & Short which is at the first floor. As soon as you enter this place, you can see the bar on the right, the small little balcony on the left and the whole seating area spread in the center. The balcony really made us very excited & we were literally blown away with the view.

The bar basically showcases the whole drinks menu, including the Long and the Shorts. So as soon as you are in; a little peep here a little peep there and you will be ready with which drink to sip on.

We actually loved the whole ambience of the place which had a distinct music playing in the background.

This month the L&S were celebrating return of Chef Dario Dezio, the gifted culinary artist. He is solely responsible for bringing in the flavors of Italy on the plate of L&S. He was also responsible for setting the L&S restaurant back then. But, we couldn’t meet him in person as he had to fly back to Italy. But, we were fortunate enough to get our hands on his creations i.e. the Italian food.

Now the Chef being absent, the L&S team filled us in & gave away lots of information. One of them being, “Italian food is basically Veg, wherein Non Veg is just added to satisfy the non vegans.”

Now moving ahead with the food, we started off with some starters. The first one being:

Prawns with white wine tomatoes and garlic: The Pan seared prawns with white wine, garlic & chilli flakes were finished with a touch of tomato sauce & parsley. We actually loved the curry and the spices around prawns. It had a garlicky and tangy flavor, but the prawns were a bit rubbery and wasn’t that fresh as well and also the flavor didn’t actually get infused in it.

Spinach and cheese poppers: Spinach & fresh cheese balls were served with a spicy sun dried tomato pesto Jalapeno and ricotta cheese. They were the winners, because we are still craving for it and want to taste it again. The Spinach and Cheese blend was simply phenomenal. It was very crispy and once you have it with the dip it gives away a herby flavor which is very delightful. We would totally recommend it & would like our readers to try it once.

If one is on a Italian trail and there are no Pizzas, it would be very disappointing. So after finishing off the starters there came a couple of pizzas. The best part about these pizzas is that it is a hand tossed flatbread with their signature thin & crisp base.

Spicy tomato sauce, mozzarella, jalapenos, ricotta cheese & capers and Parma ham & rucola.

Both the pizzas were cheesy, pretty tangy and filled with awesomeness. Its specialty was that both were Flat Bread Pizza. As soon as we had a bite of warm pizza crust topped with tomato sauce and cheese, our taste buds were stimulated by spices and soon we were hooked and wanted to eat more.

The Veg Pizzas were Spicy house pizza which was a simple veg pizza with minimal flavors and the other being Artichoke & sun-dried tomatoes pizza which had an intense richness in flavor. And,  the veggies were a bit chewy as well.

Next up was the Three Mushroom Risotto. It had a creamy rice dish with champignon, portabella & porcini mushroom with garlic, onion & white wine. It was elusively tender, creamy and rich in flavor.

The Spaghetti carbonara with Vodka was a classic combination of Italian pasta with a twist. It had egg, pancetta cream, black pepper, parmesan cheese & a splash of vodka. The Vodka imparted a delicious flavor to the pasta and it had a punch-in-the-face kind of bacon crunch taste. We can say it was simply a flavorsome and divine pasta.

Moving ahead to the Desserts. The first one was M’s Rocky Road Pancake ‘Mess’ made up of little bits of marshmallows, salted caramel, banana, fudge brownie, walnut soil and candied pecans which reminded us of the Rocky Road at Ellipsis. But, it tends to become too sweet at a point and becomes a bit hard to indulge into. So we can say this one was too sweet than the one served at other restaurants.

IMG_2981

The Blueberry compote was a clear winner in desserts. As it was glossy and intensely palatable. It was very luscious and very very fruity. Loved it totally.

Under the Mocktails we tried the Lavender Cosmo which was infused with orange and with a perfect stir it brings out the sweetness and tanginess making it the right kinda cocktail to sip on.

The Classic Manhattan & Wiings were two cocktails on which we laid our hands on. The Classic Manhattan being a strong version of Virgin Mojito and Wiings being a mix of fresh apples, Vodka, Lime, Mint and a lot of Red Bull. So we could taste lime, mint and apples, but the red bull was overpowering the whole drink.

This food meet up was pretty good and we thoroughly enjoyed it & would love to thank Long & Short team for having us over & would love to meet Chef Dario Dezio the next time he’s around.

Tuckers rate Long & Short 4/5 for its amazing food, strong cocktails and breathtaking view.
