Amaya – A Treat For Vegetarians

The authentic the food, the better the taste. Amaya Indian Grill & Kitchen is all about North India offerings. Check out our take on it:

This time the Food Bloggers Association of India’s food trail went all the way to Phoenix Market City, Kurla. The most interesting thing about this trail was that it was Indian Food & it was Amaya Indian Grill & Kitchen which was responsible for serving a wholesome Indian offering to us. This place has just been recently up at the mall, so we knew that we had a very good chance of eating some nourishing and unique flavors at Amaya, where they aim to bridge the gap between the ancient and the modern by dishing out the best of both worlds!

Amaya Indian Grill & Kitchen with its gharana style of cooking is looking forward to satiate everybody’s hunger pangs especially an authentic North Indian food hunger. Once we were down at Amaya we were in sync with a serene calmness which this place was heavily showering. From the outside, it says “Amaya” in a very subtle manner and looks a pretty easygoing mall eatery.

Inside, there are different tables laid out just to ensure that anyone from 4 to 8 to 10 people can be accommodated for their meal. We also spotted some brilliant paintings on the walls. The whole decor is pretty simple with grey & white walls and ensures that your mind gets very laid-back and lets you focus on the food which is indeed the highlight here.

Among us 20 people everybody had Hare Mirch and Dhania ki Tikki on their lips. Also, not to forget the Meetha Paan ice-cream. These were the two things which won our hearts.

The Hare Mirch & Dhania ki Tikki was extremely spicy and the description said a hint of cheddar, but it was actually filled with cheddar cheese. To our surprise, it was balancing the flavor with coriander and spice. It was deep fried and served with mint chutney. This is indeed a must have dish at Amaya and let’s say we ate almost 10 of these crispy little tikkis.

Noorani Seekh was made up of minced vegetables and its seasoning was so perfect that it was complementing each other, but it was a little dry. Altogether it was quite soft, smooth and a great dish.

Next up was the Lasooni Jheenga, well, we were very happy to see this dish because it had two of our favorite things – garlic and prawns. It had a perfect crisp and oh my god it was so damn garlicky that we still can’t forget its flavor.

The Pahadi Lasooni Palak, Palak (Spinach) can be used to support any vegetable and mostly of any flavors. Here, we found that the taste of garlic with Palak was just phenomenal.

The famous North Indian thing of all i.e. the Dal Makhani was simple yet pretty good. It had that thick, creamy touch to it and can be paired alongside those crisp butter nans.

We had the mains with some assorted breads, tandoori roti, plain naan, butter naan.

The Tarkari Dum Biryani was different, very flavorsome and pretty much a heavenly treat to our palate. We have always loved eating a biryani and this was no disappointment to us. Although, we did stuff ourselves with other things and especially the tikki, but we should have eaten more of this.

Under desserts we started with a baked Gulab Jamun which was soft, juicy, creamy and a bit textured on top. Well, it was a slight nutty as well. Although this one didn’t seem like it was baked but deep fried.

Our belief is that a meal should always end on a very sweet note and here the same thing happened, we were treated to a delightful of a dessert which was a Kolkata Meetha Paan Ice Cream. Once you see it you will pretty much like it & as soon as you break it and have a taste you will fall in love with the authenticity of North Indian offerings! It was indeed very delicious and again a must have.

Like we mentioned this was a Food Bloggers Association of India Food meet, but this one was filled with a different sort of ups & downs. Here, the mall was facing a power cut and hence the Phoenix Market City was almost in darkness & so was Amaya.

However, with the power cut & a lot of traffic, which we got before arriving, we still managed to taste the above mentioned food which actually made us realize that the veg food always has an upper hand than the non veg. So vegetarians this place is a total treat for you.

Tuckers rate Amaya Indian Grill & Kitchen 3.5/5.
