Old School Tunes and a well travelled Booze

Yes, that’s how we would like to describe our little food trail at Harry’s Bar & Cafe, Andheri Fun Republic. It plays old school music & the whole menu is a collaboration of cuisines from around the world. Read on to learn more:

We all have a good taste for food (Don’t we?) yet occasionally we would love to lose ourselves on the dancefloor and be those little maniacs to show off those insane, loonie dance moves. In our case, we surely have a great admiration for such places and always keep an eye over it.

This time it was Harrys Bar & Cafe who got our attention and was able to fill up all the glitches and create a long lasting impression. The bar has carved a niche for itself by offering some of the best club music in town.

The bar is well known for playing retro/rock/pop music whose lyrics are always on our tongues and will automatically make us sing along with it (which happened to us).

The rich playlist had songs like Another brick in the wall, Wonderwall, Whistle and some ACDC songs too. Yes, you read it right, a lounge playlist which had ACDC’s songs on it.

Now with this pumping, lip moving, slow head banging songs there were a string of drinks to tickle your fancy. The cocktails we tried were good and added a lot of excitement which made it the best food trail we ever had.

This chic bar is an inspiration from the Bar’s Singaporean lineage which Chef Vicky Ratnani has created. He terms it as “Comfort Bar Food” from across the world. Right from Vietnamese to Jamaican to Moroccan; Harry’s Bar & Cafe’s menu literally consist of food and beverages from around the world.

Drinks:

We started off with some cocktails. The first one being Sangria Red which had a perfect blend of fruits and wine. Easily one of the many stars of the evening.

 DSC_0087

The Singapore Sling was made with a blend of Cointreau, Cherry Liqueur and pineapple juice. It was a mild drink, which makes you feel beachy. A must have drink in Singapore outpost, but this one didn’t quite work its magic here.

DSC_0058

Caramel & Popcorn Martini turned out to be very sweet. The caramel flavor was captivating literally gave a kick after just having a sip (Although, we really missed the popcorn).

DSC_0079

Blood on the Rooftop was a mixture of 4 spirits, lemonade and red wine. Once you order the drink and its on your table just have a sip without stirring it. You will simply enjoy the peachy lemonade and 4 spirits flavor. And, once you stir it up do check out how the red wine mixes in and then have a sip again to actually taste the “Blood” on the Rooftop. We loved every aspect of it.

Next up was a Screwdriver which was a mix of orange juice and vodka. This was a drink that we thoroughly loved due to its rich taste of orange with a vodka. The vodka level was moderate making it a mild drink.

Moving forward to the Starters/Finger Food/Bar Nibbles:

Marinated Olives and Feta in a Jar – Black and green olives marinated in chili and the fennel got a little blank on the palate after just having 2-3 olives.

 DSC_0033

Muchos Nachos Con Carne – Veg and Non Veg were both crispy, cracky, crunchy, but the only problem we faced was that everything disappeared very soon. So dig into it as fast as you can/before it gets soggy. FYI the corn chips are gluten free (Healthy you see).

Veg

Crispy Chilli Potatoes French Fries – The Fries were quite crispy and made with dark soy sauce. The Soy leaves a mild flavor on it, which tasted pretty good to us. Also, it was perfectly spiced (Must Try).

DSC_0042

Sichuan Barbeque Chicken – Charcoal grilled chicken with sichaun pepper and lemon was a  mind and palate blasting starter. The spice went well with chicken and the meaty, spicy bbq chicken was intensely fragrant and had citrus like flavor to it. This one cannot be missed and if you don’t like spicy things please avoid.

DSC_0098

Chimichurri Chicken is an Argentine Chicken dish wrapped with Chimichurri sauce. Chimichurri is a green sauce used for grilled meat, originally from Argentina. It is made of finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, olive oil, oregano and white vinegar. The dish was zesty and garlicky.

Crispy Chicken – The chicken was good on the eye, but not on the palate and had too much of masala and it also turned out to be a little rubbery. Now it is very difficult to deal with a rubbery chicken as your mouth gets a pretty good workout because of it and we don’t like doing that.

DSC_0093

The Fisherman’s basket – It had Calamari and Prawns which were made in crispy batter which brought out the pepper and lemon flavor in it. Served with Remoulade sauce with the sauce having a mild, sweet-sour taste to it.

DSC_0064

Spicy Chicken Supreme Satay – Skewered chicken’s  tender chunks  were scrumptious. They were marinated with peanut sauce which gave it a fabulous texture. Harry’s  in-house blended peanut sauce, sweet & sour cucumber brought a succulent taste to the dish. This particular dish is commonly known as Thai Chicken Satay (One of the Thailand’s party food).

DSC_0040

Jamaican Spiced Jerk Chicken – We liked the presentation aspect of it, as the famous quote goes “ A person first eats with his eyes then with his mouth’. Moist pieces of poultry were marinated  in thyme and pepper was luscious with charred, crisp finish.

DSC_0068

Ratatouille Stuffed Mushroom Caps – Ratatouille is a part of French cuisine served as a side dish, but may also be served as a meal on its own (accompanied by pasta, rice or bread).Tomatoes are a key ingredient with garlic, onions, zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, marjoram, fennel and basil or bay leaf and thyme. Here it was stuffed with mushroom and was missing something as the dish didn’t capture the flavors of all the veggies. Also, the cheese was overpowering the dish.

DSC_0056

Fondue Stuffed Mushroom – It was looking a bit similar to the Ratatouille. But, here the stuffing was with cheddar cheese, stuffed topped with spring onion sauce and paprika. The flavor was very ordinary and also lacked the punch in the flavors.

 DSC_0091

Cornflake Crusted Cottage Cheese Cigars which can also be called as Paneer Fingers were too bland to consume.

 DSC_0095

Pattaya Beach Fish Goujons had some real crisp on the outside which was soft, crunchy with some nice seasoning to it.

DSC_0080

Tandoori Chicken and Thyme Sliders had a really unusual taste. Maybe because the Thyme didn’t go quite well with the tandoori flavor, making it what it wasn’t supposed to be.

 DSC_0043

DSC_0046

We didn’t actually give Spicy Potato and Bean Sliders a try, but our fellow blogger suggested that it was much better than the Tandoori Chicken & Thyme.

DSC_0096

Singaporean Chicken Lollipops were meaty, the batter was crispy and spicy and it came with an interesting combination of lemongrass and galangal that gave the dish a charismatic flavor.

 DSC_0057

Wasabi Cottage Cheese cubes  were tender and the batter was really well made as it was light as a feather and only if it had a little bit more of wasabi tinge it would’ve done wonders.

DSC_0073

Vietnamese Spring Rolls could have been better as the filling was quite mushy, but the roll itself was too soggy.

 DSC_0067

Talking about the Mains. The Thai Green Curry went exceedingly well with the rice. It was deliciously spiced and had a rich flavor in it.

 DSC_0110

To the very important and the most awaited part of any meal the Desserts. We were served with Drunken Volcano Cake, a warm chocolate lava pudding served with vanilla ice cream and the flambe of orange liquor gave way to a molten chocolate center. The orange liquor worked well with the chocolate and gave it another texture. Also, the accompanying vanilla ice cream was velvety smooth and delicious.

The whole experience was very satisfying. Plus, if you get tired of the food and beverages (which you won’t) you can also be Carlo Biado or Sha Sha Liu at the pool table which the bar houses and enjoy the ambient charm and superlative service.

This little server named Dilip, is the perfect guide for anything and everything and is the best person around. If you want any drink or food just wave and he will be there in seconds. If you want, you can test his knowledge about the menu too (He won’t disappoint).

Tuckers Meter: We rate Harry’s Bar & Cafe 4/5  for its ambiance, quality service and obviously the Food (Beverages).

A little Poem adapted from the movie Cocktail:

I(Harry’s Bar) am the world’s last travelled poet.

I see Mumbaikars drinking the fabulous cocktails I make.

Mumbaikars getting stinking on something I stir or shake.

The Sex on pattaya Beach,

The Schnapps made from peach,

The Hammered & Nailed,

The American Lemonade.

I make things with juice and froth.

The Cheesy Mary,

The Dirty Harry.

I make drinks so sweat and snazzy.

The Iced Shots,

The Kamikaze,

The Chatka Mary,

The Coffee Toffee,

The Jager Bomb,

The Frozen Daiquiri.

Mumbai you’re just devoted to every flavor I got.

But if you want to get loaded,

Why don’t you just order a shot?

The Bar is OPEN @ Andheri Fun Republic.
